30 years after making their debut, Salt-N-Pepa can still rock a crowd as evidenced by their performance of Shoop
last night at ASCAP’s Women Behind The Music series. The annual event
that praises female pioneers and game-changers brought out industry
insiders, media and legends like Sylvia Rhone. The hip-hop duo (Spinderella wasn’t in attendance, but the ladies acknowledged her) revealed the secret to their longevity in an interview with ASCAP VP Nicole George-Middleton.
The ladies elaborated,
“We were friends before we were a group, I think a lot of groups are thrown together. We actually love each other.” They stressed authenticity and treating their friendship like a marriage (that included counseling).
“We brought fun, fashion and femininity to hip-hop and I think a lot of women and men appreciated that,” they added.
It wasn’t long before Pepa had the crowd rolling with laughter with her outgoing personality.
