In the spirit of protest, a coalition of 22 civil rights organizations have called for a protest of Black Friday, saying, “spending money outside the community is putting money into the system of oppression and genocide.”

Though I’ve only read a handful of articles about said boycott online (In the St. Louis Post Dispatch, CBS St. Louis, and Fox 2 Now St. Louis), it seems the movement has gained momentum on Social Media, with posts using the hashtag #BlackOutFriday #NotOneDime and #BrownFriday.

What do you think of the boycott?
Will you be abstaining from making purchases this Black Friday to protest the verdict in the Mike Brown case?
