So, Serena Williams Just Made It To The French Open After Vomiting Mid-Match
Serena Williams is a boss.
The 33-year-old pro-athlete and all-around badass just beat Timea Bacsinszky to reach the French Open. And she did it while battling the flu.
And not just the flu like a little nausea and a temperature. No. It was so bad that she actually had to stop and vomit into a towel and then get back to business.
The match started out slowly, with 25-year-old Bacsinszky of Switzerland having clear control of the first half. News reports described Williams as looking “lethargic” and on the verge of tears. Commentators wondered why she didn’t just give up and call for her trainer.
Little did they know, she was about to shut all of them down.
After taking a few seconds to cough into that towel and rid her body of any little bit of humanity trying to creep its way in, tennis’ reigning superwoman was back to being her incredible self.
She came back to the court, hit two aces and before reporters could spell B-A-C-S-I-N-S-Z-K-Y, she was leading her opponent 6-3.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been this sick,” she later told reporters. “I didn’t expect to win that, and I can’t believe I won.”
Man, listen. When I have the flu, it’s all I can do to stumble to the couch, whine to my husband about how sick I am and turn on my Netflix. Sometimes, when I’m feeling better, I might put on pants.
Sometimes.
Meanwhile Serena was out here doing this:
And this:
Oh, and don’t forget this:
I don’t think I’ve ever felt so regular in my life. Go on, Serena. Show ’em how it’s done.
