quintessential summer shoe. Partially due to their versatility – from
slide-ons to wedges, open-toed to closed – and partially due to their
comfort – the natural jute or hemp bottom provides a breathable footbed –
espadrilles are the go-to sandals for any summer outing, from a day at
the beach to a block party in the city. Barri Budin, creative director
of Madison Harding, says
that “espadrilles are a classic style because they are typically casual
and read as comfortable.” While espadrilles have been around for centuries (literally),
this season they are increasingly common on the feet of fashionistas
because, as Barri explains, the sartorial sandal pairs perfectly with
