2016 Hair Trends With Celebrity Hairstylist Larry Sims

With fall on the imminent horizon, we’re swapping out our open-toed wedges for close-toed booties, our crop tops for cropped sweaters, and our barely-there lipstick for a dark, moody pout. We’re also getting ready to restyle our beachy summer hair. After all, fall is all about sleek and refined glamour, isn’t it?

LS1
Sources sat down with celebrity hairstylist Larry Sims, who has tamed the tresses of A-list beauties like Lupita Nyong’o, Victoria Beckham, Gabrielle Union, and Tracee Ellis Ross, to get an inside look into all things fall hair. And, surprise: natural hair is actually on-trend come fall (yes!).
The Lady Loves Couture: What is the most wearable hairstyle for fall 2016?
Larry Sims: Natural hairstyles are definitely in this fall.

LS3
TLLC: What is the ‘It’ color for Fall?
LS: Warm, rich, mahogany brown with golden hues or jet black.

LS2
TLLC: What are three must-have hair products to get summer hair fall-ready?
LS: Smooth ‘N Shine Instant Edge Smoothing Pomade ($3) because this product keeps your hairline smooth with the change of weather and also keeps your edge nice and sleek. Got2b Guardian Angel Flat Iron Balm ($6). Schwarzkopf Osis+ Hairspray ($24) because it allows for a touchable with a soft hold.

LS4
TLLC: What is fall’s trendiest cut and why?
LS: Disconnected, above-the-shoulder razor cuts! Whether you’re rocking your hair straight in a natural state, this style is low maintenance. The shape is always flattering for both textures.

ls5
TLLC: What trend do you think natural hair beauties like Amandla Stenberg should rock for fall?
LS: Amanda Stenberg is one of my clients, and we often play with different shapes in terms of cuts. I love to accentuate her natural grey streak when styling her hair.

TLLC: Based off of hair length, how should women style their hair this fall?
LS61
LS: Short hair – Rock cropped, versatile curly textures that can go straight when flat ironing or transform into a funky pixie
Medium hair – Super sleek and texture with a messy undone finish, Got2b Mess-Merizing Collection can be used to achieve this look.
Long hair – Go big or go home with long hair, preferably wavy with natural/curly texture.

TLLC: Tell us the best ways to maintain strong healthy hair?
LS: Eat properly, exercise, and protect your hair from heat. Definitely use a heat protectant. Also, always treat your hair with great hair treatments, conditioning and moisturizing.

LS7
TLLC: What drew you towards becoming a hair stylist?
LS: I had a 10+ year career as a professional dancer, and through the industry, I was able to see the different facets that hairstylists could accomplish. With my natural talent, it made sense for me to join the industry!

TLLC: What are your go-to styling products?
LS8
LS: Smooth ‘N Shine Instant Edge Smoothing Pomade ($3), Smooth ‘N Shine Hair Polisher ($4), Got2b Mess-Merizing Collection, and Got2b Guardian Angel Flat Iron Balm ($6).
