Do Kate Hudson’s Electro-Shock Eye Patches Actually Work?

A little electro-shock therapy goes a long way—at least for Kate Hudson, that is.
The 37-year-old actress is one of those celebrities who never seem to age. What's her skin-saving secret, you ask? Botox? Unicorn blood? It can't just be an alkaline-based diet mixed with a strict routine of body-toning workouts, right? 

Well, Kate did share that she uses electro under-eye patches to combat wrinkles on Snapchat. In fact, the mom of two wore crescent moon-shaped pads while driving in traffic one day—with wires tucked behind her ears, tracing down to a power source. 
While the star is a one mean multi-tasker, we had to find out if those electricity pads properly function or are just mere social-media fun. Thus, our trial of Wrinkle MD Eye Hyaluronic Deep Infusion System ($199). 

The Science: These hydrogel patches contain medical-grade hyaluronic acid, the skin-care ingredient du jour for most products touting moisture retention—a.k.a. how skin keeps itself hydrated and away from fine lines and wrinkles. In theory, an electrode delivers heat to the peptide-infused patches, stimulating not only the skin, but even perhaps collagen production and cell turnover. Apparently, this system is more effective than manually applying your everyday serums, which is why the E! Style editors were none too shy about trying the brand's forehead and mouth patches as well. 
The Process: It looks intimidating, but the system is pretty intuitive. Just wash your face and pat dry before applying the patches. Connect the activator pods and let it do their thing for half an hour. Finish it off with an anti-aging serum to lock in the results. 

The Feels: While wearing the patches you'll feel minor tingles, like little zaps or bursts of heat. (Hey, you don't know if it's working unless you feel something, right?) Don't worry—it's a mild sensation, but if it starts feeling at all painful, immediately take off the patches.
The Results: The brand says you can see a difference as soon as two weeks, but we saw improvement in skin elasticity after two uses. Granted, the editors who tried this have little to no wrinkles, but it did help with our under-eye circles and smoothed out our forehead skin. You're also never too young for preventative skin care.

The Final Verdict: Is Kate onto something? Definitely. We saw results, with none of the redness, dryness or breakouts that come with trying other deep treatment products. Plus, there are no messy residuals. Is $200 a little pricey? It's cheaper than Botox…and easier than finding a unicorn.
