Fashion Scoop: Chanel Bag Prices Are Changing, Public School Nominated For Two CFDA Awards, Malaika Firth Ignores Racism.
- Keep a close eye on the prices of those Chanel bags. The brand is
doing some price changes internationally in the coming months to ensure
that the bags maintain the same value around the world. Because of
fluctuating currencies, the pricing is now skewed, but the company says
you can expect European prices to rise, Asian prices to drop, and prices
in America to largely stay the same. This could be a step towards
establishing e-commerce. (Racked)
- The boys at Public School are practically minted as one of the New
York go-to brands. it seems any time there is a design competition/award
that they could be nominated for or a part of, they are. For this
year’s CFDA Award the designers are nominated for 2 prizes: the overall
CFDA MenswearDesigner of the Year Award as well as Swarovski’s Award
For Womenswear. (Fashionista)
- France is seemingly fed up with underfed models. Apparently the
National Assembly is close to passing a bill that would make it illegal
for models who are “underweight” from working. The cut off would be an
18 BMI and brands who employed underweight models would be fined 75,000
euros or even spend six months in jail. (The Cut)
- Malaika Firth, a young on-the-rise model of color in Europe, made
quite a few of her views clear in a recent interview, one of which was
her stance on race in fashion. “The lack of racial diversity is a
prevalent issue in modeling but I try to ignore it. If you talk about
and try to make it an issue then it’s still going to be there,” she said. “I
think a lot of people my age don’t see the racism, and if we can just
carry on trying to do better for ourselves, then I think it will be
fine.” (Vogue UK)
- There’s a new beauty site on the horizon: Mimi. Having launched this
week, the site is a bit of a content hub and aggregator of various
other Time Inc sites– InStyle, Real Simple, All You, People, Essence,
Travel 7 Leisure amongst others. But amongst those stories there will be
original content. In a letter that looks like a part manifesto, the
editors say they are hoping to show beauty for all women at all price
points so it’ll be interesting to see how this comes to fruition. (Mimi)
