A green or any colored bag can act as a pop of color to a neutral
ensemble. Of course you can always tie the green in to say, your jacket
or top, but style (for some) is all about being effortless, and not looking like you tried to match everything to the hilt!
Instead of a black pump, a neutral is a great starting point–think nude,
gold, or silver. And when in a rut, look to people who’ve gotten it
right, from street style stars to celebs.
Rachel Zoe owns a green Birkin, which she’s paired with
everything from all black and all white looks to jeans and a tee.
Though the color of her bag is more subdued, it still acts as an accent
to her ensembles. It’s apparent she’s not trying to match her bag down
to her eye shadow, yet it still works.
If your style is more bold, take a cue from, say June Ambrose.
The stylista has lots of colored bags in her arsenal, and she takes a
few more risks! She’s worn her orange Birkin with anything from all
denim with a bright red lip to a patterned dress whose colors pick up on
her accessory choice. If all else fails, however, it’s all about
neutrals. A black dress with cool accents? Yes!
The same rule generally holds true for any colored bag. Khloe Kardashian
has worn her bright blue Birkin with a tee and jeans, all black, and a
black and white jumpsuit. Her navy ensemble with blue pumps works
because it’s tonal. If you’re wearing all of one color, that can work as
well.
In conclusion, let your colored bags act as punctuation points to a
neutral outfit–there’s no need to build an outfit around a bag! If
you’re playing with patterns, the bag can pick up on a color in your
ensemble, but stick to neutral accessories if you want that effortlessly
chic look.
In Monica’s case, I would’ve ditched the fur vest or the shoe. Both, with the bag, is overkill.
Just my opinion!
A lot of you are stylists out there, so what would you advise?
