Solange Leads 2017 Soul Train Awards Nominees

A year after releasing A Seat at the Table, Solange leads the nominees for the 2017 Soul Train Awards. The “Cranes in the Sky” songstress picks up seven nominations for her critically-acclaimed album.

She is up for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, Video of the Year (“Cranes in the Sky”), Album/Mixtape of the Year (A Seat at the Table), Song of the Year (“Cranes in the Sky”), Best Collaboration (“Don’t Touch My Hair” with Sampha), Best Dance Performance (“Don’t Touch My Hair”), and The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award (“Cranes in the Sky”).
Bruno Mars is right behind her, with six nods for his work on 24K Magic. This includes nominations for Best R&B/Soul Male Artist, Video of the Year (“24K Magic”), Album/Mixtape of the Year (24K Magic), Song of the Year (“That’s What I Like”), Best Dance Performance (“24K Magic”), and The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award (“Versace on the Floor”).
Hip-hop is also a part of the celebration. The Rhythm & Bars Award, formerly known as the Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year, features nods for Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow,” DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts,” French Montana’s “Unforgettable,” Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE.,” and Yo Gotti’s “Rake It Up.”
The annual show will also recognize legends in the field. Toni Braxton will receive the Don Cornelius Legend Award, while SWV will be honored with the Lady of Soul Award.
The 2017 Soul Train Awards will be taped Nov. 5 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, and will air Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. on BET.
