Fashion Scoop:Teri Agins on Why Kanye West’s Fashion Line Didn’t Take Off, Will.i.am Debuts Smartband, and Heidi Klum To Launch Lingerie Line.
- We all remember Kanye West’s doomed line that was or wasn’t named DW. Well, in her new book Hijacking the Runway
(hopefully we’ll have a review soon) fashion writer Teri Agins delves a
bit behind the scenes. And while she didn’t share it all, in a recent
interview she points to the fact that West didn’t devote his all to
fashion, trying to juggle his line with his music career. “If he
really wants this, then he’s going to have to really hunker down and
take a different viewpoint. Or he can parachute in and design these
capsule collections, which I think have been successful for him and so
many others.” (Elle)

- Will.i.am has finally unveiled his i.am. PULS smart band that
combines the features of a smartphone and watch. The piece includes an
“emotional” sensor as well as access to music, social media, maps and a
Siri-like speech recognition app.The
technology is run on AT&T, though pricing and retail outlets have
not been revealed. Expect it to debut in stores in time for holiday. (The Hollywood Reporter)
- Toms Shoes has been steadily expanding their offerings. After
starting out with shoes, adding glasses, and even coffee, the company is
now launching bags. For every bag sold the company will donate one
birth kit to a mother and baby in need. Bags will feature hand-beading,
hand-woven embroidery, and tribal-inspired prints. (WWD)
- Heidi Klum is now a creative director at Bendon, working on her own
Heidi Klum Intimates line. The label is a follow-up on Elle
Macpherson’s line for the brand. Klum was chosen for her popularity —
worldwide television reach including — and social media engagement. (The Australian)
- Converse just sued 31 companies for Trademark infringement. Citing
the classic design of their sneaks(toe bumper and cap as well as the
stripes on the bottom of the shoe) the company is standing up for
attributes that legally they’ve exclusively owned since 1932. Companies
to feel the brunt of their attack includes H&M, Kmart as well as
Fila. (Fashionista)
