Glitter Lipstick Just Got Real: 3 Low-Key Ways to Sparkle Like Gigi Hadid

ESC: Gigi Hadid
Frosted lips might remind you of the slightly tacky ‘90s version of yourself, but they're back in a more glamorous way.
I am not talking about the alien-like sliver and blue colors you used to wear on the regular. I am referring to something i saw on the runway at Milan Fashion Week: glitter lips. Models' (including Gigi Hadid) bedazzled pout on the Fendi runway was flesh-toned but, yes, frosted with an insane layer of sparkle.
Now i am not declaring a full-on glitter kisser is the new go-to lip for fall, but we are taking note. "Shimmer lipsticks and frosted lip stains are making a comeback right now," agreed celeb makeup artist Suzie Kim.
So, without further ado, here are three simple ways to frost your lips, the real-girl way.

"A shimmery lip stain in a bronze, rose-like color is an easy way to do a foiled lip for everyday life," said Suzie. If you're going to test the waters with a low-key stain, like Stila's Coconut Crush Lip & Cheek Stain, just make sure you prep the lips with a hydrating layer, like Kevyn Aucoin's the Sensual Lip Balm. It will keep your lips from chapping and hold the color in place. Practical and pretty!

Now say you're dressing up a bit, maybe for a wedding or a birthday brunch. In that case, control the level of glitter yourself. "To add a second dimension, simply mix in a crushed eye shadow in a neutral, complementary color," she shared. Take your everyday nude lipstick, like Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick in Angelic Nude, and use a brush to tap some finely-milled glitter, like Mac's Tan Pigment, into the mix. "Once you have the level of shimmer that you want, swipe it on and don't forget to set the look with a clear gloss," she concluded.

Halloween is right around the corner, so even if you don't have plans to strut down a runway like the supermodel, an exaggerated, glitter lip just feels appropriate this time of year. Same MO as before: You'll want to start with some nude lipstick, like Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo in No. 6, but this time use a thicker, flashier glitter, like Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Glitterin Beige. And don't forget to set with a good gloss, Bobbi Brown's Crystal Lip Gloss. "I even think this look is good for a music festival or a girls' night out—just make sure you eat first," encouraged the pro.
