Fashion Scoop: The 411 on The Met Gala, Public School Designers To Head DKNY, and Eva Chen Might be Leaving Lucky

  • The Met Gala was yesterday and with it comes a flood of my own coverage. While i am handing down my best dressed for the official red carpet as well as the stand out after party looks, there were quite a few tidbits of news that i wanted to divulge. First up: Rihanna’s Dress:8 Fan Bing Bing in Christopher Bu, Sarah Jessica Parker in Custom H&M and Phillip Treacy, Rihanna in Guo Pei, and more!
    • Rihanna’s Guo Pei look is actually a very elaborate cape that took two years to make. Created by hand by the Chinese couturier herself — it was a one woman job — the look was one of the few from a Chinese designer on the carpet. How did Rihanna find it you ask? “I was researching Chinese couture on the Internet and I found it,” according to Rih. It’s not rocket science you guys! Pei also has two looks in the exhibition (both of which are breathtaking)! (Vanity Fair)

    • The show itself is massive–in fact it’s three times the size of last year’s Charles James exhibit. Walking through it is quite breathtaking as some of the galleries are set up as beautiful of vignettes. There’s a gallery set up to look like a harem with mannequins all dressed in red lace Valentino dresses and another set up to feel like a court complete with mock rippling water and six John Galliano for Dior designs. • While cultural appropriation was real last night, there was one star who seemed to be getting the most heat: Sarah Jessica Parker. While the fashionista is known for always embracing the Met Gala theme, some have called her tasteless and racist because of her flame, pom pom accented Philip Treacy headpiece. Her headdress wasn’t a mockery–it was displayed at the Beijing Olympics and thus paid due homage to China. (Refinery29)

    • In other news you may have missed: Maxwell Osbourne and Dao-Yi Chow from Public School will now also head up design at DKNY. Expect to see their first collection out in September at New York Fashion Week. (Fashionista)
Mommy-to-be Eva Chen donned classic hues of black and white for a stylish win.
    • Lastly, Eva Chen is reportedly transitioning out of Lucky. Some speculate that the move signals the eventual closing of the shopping glossy. (The Cut)
