Katherine Jackson, whose teenage son was just killed in a car crash, wore her son’s cap and gown and participated in what would have been his high school graduation, to honor his memory, according to NBC Chicago.
Her son, Aaron Dunigan, was a star quarterback and prom king at his high school. He was expected to enroll in Southern Illinois University in the fall but those plans were thwarted when Dunigan was killed in a car crash on the night of his prom, just days before his graduation.
Dunigan and his friend were getting a ride from another teen, who was under the influence of marijuana, on the night of the incident. The teen crossed a median and crashed into another car, killing that driver, and Dunigan.
“[My son] knows his mom walked the stage. I’m going to be his legs and he’s going to be my wings and we’re going to go up there and get our diploma,” said the grieving mother.
The teen who was driving has been charged with DUI causing death and reckless homicide with a motor vehicle.
