Fashion Scoop: Oscar de la Renta Dies At 82, Pharrell Collaborates With Cara Delevingne On Music, and Cannes Is Getting A Fashion Festival.
- After battling cancer for 10 years, Oscar de la Renta has passed
away at age 82. Having designed for a cadre of First Ladies as well as
for Amal Alamuddin’s dress to wed actor George Clooney most recently,
the Dominican-born star was a force in the industry. In the past the
designer worked for Balenciaga, Lanvin, and Balmain. As announced last
week, Peter Copping will act as the new creative director of de la
Renta’s namesake label. (NPR)

- On November 2nd, Diane von Furstenberg will launch her new reality show House of DVF
on E!. The show will follow eight girls competing to be Furstenberg’s
global brand ambassador. If you’re expecting constant bickering and cat
fighting, DVF says to look elsewhere: “What was important to me is that I wanted to do a show that actually empowered women.” (Yahoo Style)
- Rumor has it that to further her dreams of having a music carer,
Cara Delevingne just reordered a video and debut single with Pharrell.
Apparently, the two have been working on the project for the past eight
months and there’s no word on when they’ll release it. The move would be
yet another string added to Delevingne’s career bow that already
contains modeling, designing and acting. (Teen Vogue)
- If you’re familiar with #FashionTwitter you’ve no doubt come across
DKNY’s PR Girl, Aliza Licht. Having made her name by being on the
forefront of social media for the Donna Karan brands, Licht just
announced that her 288-page mentoring book is slated for release this
May. Entitled Leave Your Mark the book features four sections: “Land Your Dream Job,” “Kill It In Your Career,” “Rock Social Media” and “Creating the Brand of You.” The forward is written by Karan herself. (Fashion Times)
- The red carpet at Cannes is pretty much the Paris Haute Couture
Fashion Week of red carpets and yet now, the event is about to get a bit
more fashion. This year will mark the first that there will be a
dedicated Cannes Fashion Festival to run in tandem with the Film
Festival. While details are sparse it does beg the question: With all of
the amazing fashion already present, what exactly are they hoping to
achieve? (NYT)
