MC Lyte, Brandy, Queen Latifah, Yo-Yo & More Represent For The Ladies At 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards [VIDEOS]

2014 BET Hip Hop Awards - Show

With some dope performances and a couple of awards, ladies had a few moments to shine at the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards!
Despite the fact that the Female MC category was scrubbed from the lineup this year, women weren’t completely marginalized during the ceremony. The network managed to avoid some major drama by awarding Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea each with their own prize: the Made You Look and Who Blew Up awards respectively.
Finding out who BET ranked at the top of the hip-hop game is fun and all, but people really tune in to see the performances and experience the lyrical magic that are the Cyphers! Hip-hop may be dominated by men, but it wouldn’t be complete without a little feminine energy to round out the sound. Remy Ma and her husband Papoose drove that point home with their cypher, where they rattled off a list of great men and the women beside them.

ne of the biggest girl power moments from the show was Brandy‘s performance of “I Wanna Be Down (Remix)” for the single’s 20th anniversary. She stepped out onto a blank canvas and let her sound fill the stage–with a little assistance from Mc Lyte, Yo Yo and Queen Latifah, of course! It was a hot performance, and the crowd loved it.
Admittedly, the video we found is a little bootleg, but BET hadn’t posted it to their official Hip Hop Awards Website as of press time. Can you say “shade” beauties? We knew you could! Ah well, enjoy the performance anyway.
