Capacious culottes and trousers, florals, functional knits, military-inspired details: these are all trends we’ve seen again and again throughout the Fashion Weeks this season. Each and every one of them was present on Stella McCartney’s Spring catwalk — which she actually refers to as “Summer” instead. One might think the presence of all these fads would make the collection at hand look trendy, but that’s never the case with this brand. No matter what is in the market, McCartney always perfectly blends of-the-moment accents with classic shapes and silhouettes.

McCartney is always trying to outdo herself, much like the powerful women she dresses all over the globe. That calls for effortlessly chic designs and her pieces for this season were a breath of air: the better to glide down the streets of the world’s concrete jungles in.

The brand has consistently and successfully moved the fashion conversation forward, while still layering on functionality. Wearable design was on display with sailor-inspired trousers that hit at the hips, a long-line ribbed knit tunic, easy knee-length skirts, and practical yet voluminous sweater dresses. Silk jumpsuits influenced by parachute flight gear were breezy and hung loose for the ultimate in comfort, while lightweight coats in cream, salmon, black, and blue were polished yet laid-back.

Sensuality was presented with a knit number with cutout detailing and thigh-high slits: sure to pop up on the red carpet in the coming months. A natural and ethereal quality was on hand in the rest of the assortment’s eveningwear: a frothy LBD with sheer insets and rosette embroidery and a colorful cami-inspired frock with a plunging neckline and mini length.

After a month of fashion shows, this collection felt enticing, yet serene with its down-to-earth spirit. The looks were sexy and confident without being contrived or overdone in the slightest — the perfect additions to the McCartney ethos and the modern-day sartorially savvy woman’s wardrobe.
