LaQuan Smith,
like several other designer this Spring 2015 season, skewed more subdued
for his latest collection. Neutrals dominated his foray, with black and
white playing on A-line skirts, short shorts, and sheer maxi dresses,
with moments of glamorous sequins adding a bit of sparkle.Smith, who recently turned 26, called this capsule ‘Grown and Sexy’ to reflect his current mood. He explained, “It’s
edgy and sexy. There’s a very hard and soft rocker glam element. It’s
giving you a little of St. Tropez, Dubai, and New York City.” Think shimmering cocktail dresses, dangerously short hot pants, and see though trench dresses, fashioned out of lace.
Having found a recent fan in Kim Kardashian, he constructed her signature crop top and pencil skirt combo in orange. Using ‘it girls’ as his muse, he also fashioned a short and bomber set with Christina Milian in mind, along with skin skimming frocks anyone from Rihanna to Zoe Kravitz could rock effortlessly.
With all his celebrity fans–Nicki Minaj, Sevyn Streeter, and Cassie to name a few–Smith continues to put forth his singular aesthetic of sassy chic with a dash of playful irreverence.
