In this thing called fashion, it’s inevitable that a
designer will draw inspiration from another creative comrade. At
yesterday’s highly anticipated Balmain Spring Summer 2015 presentation
in Paris, fashion focused eagle eyes observed that Olivier Rousteing’s
stunning white pantsuit bore a striking resemblance to a look from Givenchy ‘s 1997 Haute Couture collection designed by the iconic Alexander McQueen:
McQueen’s white haute couture ensemble appeared on the runway with daring torso cutouts, a detailed wrap front feature and symmetrical front pockets. A mid length coat was draped over the model’s shoulders for a side of extra pizzazz. Neutral make up with sleek and slicked hair made for an epic catwalk appearance.Balmain’s 2015 look remained strikingly consistent with it’s inspirational predecessor, save a gold plated rimmed white choker.
So, what do think? Who gets your chic vote of approval?
*For fun, take a peep of Givenchy’s Haute Couture 1997 runway collection in the video below.
It’s been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but is there a untold demarcation of where inspiration should stop?
What do you think of this situation?
