The New York Times Fashion Instagram @NYTimesFashion had to do a quick retraction today after posting a Paris Fashion Week picture of Kanye West with the caption, “@KimKardashian ‘s husband, #KanyeWest arrives at the Dries Van Noten show at #pfw”
After significant backlash in their comments section, they decided to delete the picture and change the caption, writing, “#KanyeWest arrives at the Dries Van Noten show, #pfw.”
Though Kanye is indeed married to Kim, his musical career, producing skills, and creative talents shouldn’t be reduced to a sidekick, or the ‘plus one’ to a beautiful reality starlet with a savvy business sense. Their initial caption discredits his accomplishments, pinning his relevance to his wife.
Kanye’s artistic legacy stands strong on its own, which is why @NYTimesFashion rightly rectified their faux pas.
What do you think of this social media misstep? Shade or no shade?
