Olivier Rousteing of Balmain
has single handedly created one of the hottest brands of the moment,
thanks to a mixture of his unquestionable talent, good looks, and
unwavering bemusement with the celeb set. Rousteing and his chiseled
cheekbones is no stranger to partying with Rihanna, snapping selfies
with Nicole Richie, and shopping with Kim Kardashian; it seems his muses
inspired his latest collection for the historic French house.
Titillating cut outs and squares of revealing mesh kept the
unapologetically sexy consumer in mind. Undergarment revealing skirts
and tops shared the runway with barely there shirts, sliced to showcase
as much skin as possible.
No cut outs? No problem! Rousteing managed to keep hems high, offering
ubiquitous crop tops and micro shorts, accessorized by tubular
accessories and vertiginous sandals.
While an almost dizzying black based grid pattern predominated most
pieces, Rousteing did counter with bold blues, reds, yellows, and
whites. He truly amped up the visual display with a series of rainbow
hued separates cast in bright stripes and geometric prints.
All eyes are on Rousteing, and the pressure to produce is undoubtedly
daunting. The inspiration for select looks from the collection went
beyond the obvious ‘it’ girl, and pointed to another ‘it’ brand of the
moment: Givenchy. Iterations of items from the archives and present day made their way to his Spring 2015 runway.
Select similarities don’t negate Rousteing’s gift. Grid patterns and
colorfully bold stripes will be on many socialite and starlet lust lists
in no time.
What do you think of the collection?
