Burberry Prorsum Fall 2015.
Fall 2015 trends have already begun to emerge, with hippie chic and modern riffs on the 70’s already at the front of the pack. If there’s anything Christopher Bailey knows how to do, it’s blend what’s on-trend with Burberry’s heritage, thus he channeled both decades in a spirited mélange — steeped in a bohemian aesthetic with a handcrafted flair.
Hits of the time including “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” and “My Sweet Lord” (both sung by British singer and songwriter Clare Maguire) provided the soundtrack for the assortment. As is requisite for the season, textiles and fabrics were in abundance and grounded in an equally flavorful palette brimming with warm browns, blues, and oranges.
Bailey played to our inner flower child with fringe-accented blanket ponchos (a new spin on those that did so well for the iconic British brand for Holiday), the classic trench in quilted florals pulling inspiration from techniques used in Durham, England, printed maxi dresses for all those music festivals, and cozy furs for nights when that autumnal chill sets in. Fringe also did a number on the accessories from suede bucket bags to platform booties with sky-high heels.
Patchwork also had a very serious moment from head-to-toe. A mishmash of colors were in motion on thigh-high suede boots (sure to be among this season’s “It” accessories), while exposed seaming came together on trenches in the same napped finish.
Hippie-inspired collections can often veer into costume territory, but this was of the haute variety — simultaneously functional and standout. There were even a few pieces for those who like their fashion more pared-down. A well-rounded assortment that both the fashion house’s legion of loyal fans and a whole new customer base will have a grand old time wearing.
