OMONDI.
Though i love my favorite globally-renowned, mainstream designers that have become household names from New York to Nairobi, i revel in the appearance of new brands at Fashion Week. One such label charmed me — that of OMONDI. Though founded in 2013, the brand made its official NYFW debut for Fall with a lineup brimming with expert-tailoring and a soft, but powerful color range from blush pink to utilitarian army green.
A calf-length lavender coat with oversized lapels and its belt left untied will go down as one of the best coats of Fall 2015, while a stripe blouse and quilted short combination was undeniably Spring, though it will work for those few muggy days in autumn when the seasons are transitioning.
For a bit on Omondi’s background, she honed her skills as a pattern-making student at Savannah College of Art and Design. After graduating, she went to work for Kimberly Ovitz and Theyskens Theory — the clean lines and uncluttered aesthetic of both are evident in her Fall collection. Omondi then embarked on creating her namesake label: influenced by her life in NYC and her Kenyan heritage.
While we’re all bundling up and layering down, these pieces were a breath of fresh air: the better to get through Winter with. The looks were refined, imaginative, and steadfast in their design rigor.
I cannot wait to see more from OMONDI and we wouldn’t be at all surprised if a dress or two made its red carpet debut on one of Hollywood’s most fashion-forward women in the months to come.
What do you think of the Fall collection from OMONDI?
