Elie Saab Couture Spring 2015.
If one knows anything about Elie Saab, the most important element to his aesthetic is his celebration of the woman for whom no adornment is too much. Beaded embellishment? Saab says bring it on. Sheer-on-sheer construction? Saab says watch me work. Elie Saab’s Spring 2015 Couture Collection was, for better or worse, no different. Models sauntered the runway in the most precious of jeweled gowns with embroidered and sequined detailing delicately covering all the right places.
His pieces are always defined by their high powered glamour. From every angle, the gowns sparkle and glitter; whether in short or sweeping silhouettes, each dress shines with its carefully accessorized matching belt and heels.
Saab presented only two wide leg pants ensembles, which caught my eye — one in a striking gold and another in a seductive black, but I couldn’t help but long for more. The other gowns offered his standard princess silhouettes, but I found the short cocktail dresses the most appealing and arguably, the most accessible. One could pair any one of those pieces with the fiercest of pumps and be out for an unforgettable night on the town.
But despite the beauty, there was sadly little newness with this Spring Couture Collection. If one had told me that this show had been presented in Spring 2012, I would not have been hard pressed to believe it. Saab executed his signature playbook: flawless execution and embellishment for days, but it certainly did not leave my imagination inspired.
