La Perla Atelier Couture Spring 2015.
La Perla has set its sights on Couture. For the brand’s first-ever collection of the sort in Paris, it combined its penchant for sultry lingerie with functional sportswear in an extraordinary and newfangled catwalk presentation. With supermodel Naomi Campbell closing the show, one could easily tell that the brand meant business–and that its latest attempt at injecting sex appeal into the fashion industry had the cosign of some major influencers.
Emiliano Rinaldi, the Creative Director of the Italian brand, created an assortment of what he deemed “inside/out” ensembles, with models marching down the runway in long-sleeve sheer blouses, sheer tights, utilitarian-inspired belted vests, and transparent airy sweaters. Mesh flatform sandals anchored the looks with a wearable, sporty chic sensibility.
The sexy designs were an extension of the pieces that kicked off La Perla’s momentous 60th anniversary year — emblematic of the brand’s new world order. It’s all about augmenting the line’s presence in the functional realm of the style department and growing it past its client file who are strictly intimates-focused. The craftsmanship on display easily did that with a slew of incredibly intricate pieces that had all the bells and whistles of boudoir-ready designs with an experimental flair.
Sheer shorts, high-waist see-through trousers, and cropped hooded vests injected an athletic-inspired vibe into the collection, while tie-waist robe and pant combos simultaneously riffed on pajamas and boxer-reminiscent getups.
It’s clear that the brand had no limits here and feathers strewn across bodysuits, garter-accented tights, and the aforementioned hooded robes were some of the most luxurious and opulent pieces in the lineup.
Layering was on the menu with simple tees and shorts styled with gold lace-accented crop tops, bodysuits, floor-grazing hooded jackets, a pleated suit, and so much more.
Overall, the collection was beautiful. The designs were well-executed and will definitely end up on the red carpet on the lithe figures of the brand’s fans including BeyoncĂ© and Rihanna. If this is a sign of things to come for La Perla, we’re all for it.
