Intensity and élan have never been a problem for Fausto Puglisi and his Spring collection was a veritable thunderbolt striking down on Milan Fashion Week with the brand’s signature eye-popping hues, mixed prints, and shimmering sparkle elements. The designer pulled inspiration from quite a few incongruous places that came together rather boldly, jumping around a bit between Mod with collared A-line shifts, punk by way of oversized leather jackets, and a touch of ancient Rome with studded sandals.

Milan designers are known for their flashy proclivities, thus Puglisi did not disappoint with a black and white button-front shirt and high-waist skirt punctuated by holes, a mockneck crop top for a taste of bare midriff, geometric print trousers given added patterned flair with skirt overlays, and metallic embellished mini skirts with edgy zipper detailing. A long printed cardigan infused some functionality into the assortment, while a gold, moto-inspired skirt suit was as flashy as it gets.

The collection was undoubtedly more youthful and more fierce than Puglisi’s past assortments: embellished printed crop tops seized the trend that designers simply cannot get enough of this season while skirted overalls skewed edgy with harness fronts and pleated backs. A ripped topper bared Issa Lish’s bosom (wearable in real-time layered over a bandeau) and an oversized gold metallic leather jacket was in a word, ostentatious. Studded slides were just the thing to reel in the style set who is currently opting for sneakers and all things comfortable before a bejeweled and patterned mini mimicking a battle skirt sauntered down the runway.

Not to fret for women with a more pared-down aesthetic as there were indeed less gaudy ensembles at hand. A two-tone cami gown was veritably red carpet-ready, while a leg-baring frock with exaggerated hips was pretty and still fashion forward. A tie-waist coat with an off-center zip exuded both modernity and practicality.

So what’s next for Fausto Puglisi? More celebrity fans for sure and possibly more commercial success – dependent on how the above play out for luxury customer consumption and a wider range of price points for those who don’t have a stash of coins at the ready. Though this lineup wasn’t a total knockout, we can always count on this brand for spunk and spirit.
