JAY-Z’s ‘4:44’ Goes Platinum
JAY-Z makes history.
Just five days after its release, the Hall of Fame rapper’s 13th studio album 4:44 has been certified platinum, marking an important milestone in hip-hop.
“[JAY-Z] has earned 13 Platinum solo studio Album awards, more than any other hip-hop artist in @RIAA Gold & Platinum history,” tweeted Roc Nation.
Beyond his solo plaques, Hov has also gone platinum with joint projects, like Collision Course (with Linkin Park), The Best of Both Worlds (with R. Kelly), Unfinished Business (with R. Kelly), and Watch the Throne (with Kanye West).
Hov’s 4:44 earns the platinum plaque despite only being available on TIDAL. The TIDAL exclusive is reportedly set to be released on iTunes and Apple Music this Friday. A physical release is also expected at a later date.
JAY is also planning to release a visual for “444” this Friday. So far, the album has spawned an animated video for “The Story of O.J.” and a short called “Footnotes on ‘The Story of O.J.'” The latter clip features Kendrick Lamar, Will Smith, and others talking about racism in America.
